Segment Two- Codeweavers & Crossover Office 3.0- A update from Jeremy White

We will be joined tonight by Jeremy White, Founder and CEO of CodeWeavers, Inc. CodeWeavers is the leading corporate backer of the Wine Project. Although a for profit business, CodeWeavers is a firm believer in the Open Source business model. Every single product and project they have developed over the past three years has had all of the changes and improvements made to Wine returned back to the Wine Project.

Wine is an open source software initiative that is systematically re-implementing the Win32 API under Linux. Wine makes it possible for Linux PCs to run Windows application as if natively. They offer a range of Wine-based products offering cross-platform capabilities for both corporate environments as well as individual Linux enthusiasts.

CodeWeavers recently announced the release of CrossOver Office 3.0, their Linux desktop productivity tool. CrossOver Office allows you to run many popular office productivity software applications, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Project and Visio, graphics applications like Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, and Adobe Photoshop, and many more. Not only that, but CrossOver Office also allows you to use many Windows Web browser plugins, such as QuickTime and Shockwave, directly on your Linux browser. No Windows Operating System license required; CrossOver is a complete replacement for your Windows OS as far as your applications are concerned.

They offer two versions of CrossOver Office: Professional and Standard. The Standard version provides home users and Linux enthusiasts with all of the great features that CrossOver has always been noted for, at an affordable price point. Professional builds on the functionality of Standard, by adding enhanced deployability features, as well as the ability to run CrossOver in shared mode from a single machine. Professional also comes with a longer support period, and a higher support level, making it a more robust Windows-to-Linux migration tool.

Prior to founding CodeWeavers, Jeremy was a founder and CTO of Holten, White and Associates, a Minneapolis based computer consulting firm. Jeremy first worked with Slackware Linux in the early 1990's, and quickly became enamoured of the Free Software movement. One day, while looking for an Atari 2600 emulator, Jeremy stumbled across the Wine project, and was captivated by both the challenge and promise of Wine. This eventually led to the reorganization of CodeWeavers around the Wine project. Jeremy graduated from Carleton College, in Northfield, Minnesota with a BA in Physics. Jeremy is active in a number of Linux and community groups, but spends the bulk of his free time playing with his two children.
