Tonight LIVE on www.thelinuxshow.com

At 6pm pst, 7pm rmt, 8pm cst, 9pm east and 1am GMT Kevin, Jeff, PJ and Doc Searls (of the Linux Journal) have a fun show lined up tonight on The Linux(r) Show!!

In Segment One- News: As usual we will be covering the hot linux news of the week and a talk about our trip next week to Linuxfest in KC.

In Segment Two- Sair Linux/GNU certification: Check out the Sair Web site at http://www.linuxcertification.com

We will be joined by associate professor of computer science at the University of Mississippi, Dr. Tobin Maginnis has taught detailed courses in Linux internals and Linux system administration. He has been teaching three levels of operating system courses since 1980 and has employed Version 6 Unix, Xinu, Minix, FreeBSD and Linux source code in these classes. Dr. Maginnis also teaches four levels of computer networking courses at Ole Miss. He served as acting chair of the computer science department from 1991 to 1994.

Dr. Maginnis has been an advocate of digital logic since the 1960s when, as an undergraduate and graduate student, he designed and constructed electro-mechanical logic circuits that controlled behavioral experiments. These circuits were programmed with “plug boards” and “snap leads.” He also was a laboratory manager responsible for the day-to-day operation of thousands of these circuits and trained others in circuit programming.

He joined the computer science faculty at Ole Miss in 1979. Here, he designed novel “bus mapping” interfaces that allowed LSI-11 computers transparent high-speed access to other computer memory and I/O space. From 1978 to 1980, he co-developed one of the first general-purpose computer network file transfer programs, called ThriftNet, which inter-operated among eleven different operating systems.

Dr. Maginnis’ current research topics include the construction and integration of distributed operating system components into the Linux kernel and the development of a performance-oriented distributed operating system.

In his spare time he was able to become FOUNDER & PRESIDENT OF SAIR, INC. a leader in the Linux/GNU certification business. We will discuss with Tobin the present state of the Sair Certification program and his views on certification in general.

Remember tune in at 6pm pst, 7pm rmt, 8pm cst, 9pm east and 1am GMT.
